Case 210 - Café refuses to add sauce topping on ice-cream


A member of staff in a café refused to put sauce on the enquirers' ice cream due to health and safety reasons.

Panel decision

This is clearly a nonsensical excuse which is being offered and the panel supports the complainant for challenging this issue. There are clearly no health and safety reasons behind this and whatever the "risk" that the proprietor saw in making this ban on sauce for ice creams it is a silly decision.
