A local council have blocked access and locked a gate providing a thoroughfare to a country coastal park. They have claimed that this road poses a risk to pedestrians and vehicles and state they have had reports of near misses.
The council were right to act if there were near miss incidents involving their employees taking money at the gates. The problem has arisen because they took action without consulting or properly communicating with those who used that access. The panel is pleased to see that alternative measures are now in place which provide protection for employees and allow continued access through the gate.
