The enquirer raised the issue of a website selling a garden shredder stating "DUE TO HEALTH AND SAFETY - THIS ITEM IS AVAILABLE FOR COLLECTION ONLY". The company will not sell the shredder without the purchaser first receiving a product/safety briefing (including advice on PPE) at the point of sale, therefore the shredder is normally available for collection only. However, the company can and will arrange local delivery and briefing at a customer’s home or arrange courier delivery once the briefing has taken place at the store but this information is not immediately obvious from the web site.
The company is acting reasonably in requiring that usage is explained before the product is delivered to the customer to ensure safe usage. We understand the company does have the facility for home delivery after in store instruction. The website should be amended to make this clear and also to provide a better explanation of the need for the safety briefing rather than just stating "health and safety".
