Case 153 - A fish and chip shop, displays a sign "Under three year olds are not allowed on the premises or in the restaurant."

Issue

A fish and chip shop, displays a sign in it's window stating that under three year olds are not allowed on the premises or in the restaurant, due to health and safety.

Panel decision

This is another case of health and safety being used as an excuse for something else and appears to be a complete over-reaction to an easily controlled risk. It would be much more sensible for the notice to ask parents to keep children under control whilst in the shop/restaurant.
