Case 90 - Local council removed advertising signs from roadside on grounds of health and safety

A local council has removed advertising signs from the roadside on the grounds of health and safety.

Panel decision

There is no health and safety legislation that prevents organisations from advertising events through the use of roadside signs. The Council should be asked to explain the real planning law related reason for removing the signs, rather than hiding behind the health and safety excuse.
