Case 61 - Gym manager refused request for playpen in changing room on health and safety grounds

Patrons of a hotel gym have requested that a playpen be located in the changing room to contain young children whilst the adults are changing. The Spa manager has declined this request on health and safety grounds.

Panel decision

There is no Health and Safety law which prohibits play pens in changing rooms. The leisure centre should be clear on the reasons why a play pen cannot be placed in the changing room.
