The Assessment of Repetitive Tasks (ART) tool was designed to help health and safety inspectors assess repetitive tasks involving the upper limbs. The prevention of injuries arising from such repetitive tasks which can lead to upper limb disorders (ULDs) is a priority for HSE. The tool has been developed by HSE and piloted with a variety of interested parties including inspectors from the HSE and local authorities.
The second pilot which took place during 2009 has identified refinements which are currently being made to the ART tool. It is intended to publish the tool on HSE's Musculoskeletal Disorders website in early 2010.
Employers, safety officers, safety representatives and others may find it useful for identifying repetitive tasks involving the upper limbs which present a high-risk of injury and help them complete a risk assessment to allow those risks to be reduced.
