Local Authorities
The Health and Safety Commission (HSC) has made substantial funds (£5M for 2005-06 to 2008-09) available for Local Authorities (LAs) to investigate how they could make increased use of science, especially HSE’s Health and Safety Laboratory’s (HSL) scientific resources, to support their enforcement activities.
The S&T Initiative, launched May 2005, put in place the necessary systems for LAs to be able to access these funds. So far, the initiative has been a success with applications being made for around 50 planned projects and over 50 requests for reactive support. The documents below will give you further details of the initiative and progress made during the first year.
During 2006-07 funding is also being made available to provide S&T support for local proactive campaigns. Details about this can be obtained from the attached note on the campaigns procedure.
If you need further information please contact Mark White at HSL, by email (mark.white@hsl.gov.uk) or phone (01298 218816) or your regional Partnership Manager.
The S&T initiative provides funding for reactive support work through a call-off arrangement with HSL. HSL have produced an A to Z prospectus of services that can be provided under this call-off arrangement.
