Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS)
LACORS is the local government central body responsible for overseeing local authority regulatory and related services in the UK.
The HSE/Local Government Panel (HSE/LGP)
HSE/LGP meets twice a year to:
- promote strategic dialogue on local, central and devolved government issues that affect health and safety regulatory functions
- review the effectiveness and performance of the partnership between the enforcing authorities.
Businesses and organisations
The Lead Authority Partnership Scheme (LAPS) brings businesses and organisations together with local authorities to develop and improve health and safety arrangements in the business or organisation.
Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO)
LBRO is a non-departmental public body, accountable to the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) through the Better Regulation Executive (BRE). LBRO's role is to improve local authority enforcement of environmental health, trading standards and licensing - reducing burdens on businesses that comply with the law while targeting those who flout it.
Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)
The CIEH is a professional, awarding and campaigning body at the forefront of environmental and public health and safety. It sets standards, accredits courses and qualifications for the education of members and other environmental health practitioners.
Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS)
The professional body representing environmental health in Scotland. The objectives for which the Institute is established are for the benefit of the community to promote the advancement of environmental health.
Local Government Association (LGA)
The LGA is a voluntary lobbying organisation, acting as the voice of the local government sector, and an authoritative and effective advocate on its behalf.
Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA)
COSLA is the representative voice of Scottish local government and also acts as the employers' association on behalf of all Scottish councils.
Welsh Local Government Association (WGLA)
The Welsh Local Government Association represents the interests of local authorities in Wales. It represents the 22 local authorities in Wales and the 4 police authorities, 3 fire and rescue authorities and 3 national park authorities.
Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG)
CLG sets policy on local government, housing, urban regeneration, planning and fire and rescue. CLG have responsibility for all race equality and community cohesion related issues in England and for building regulations, fire safety and some housing issues in England and Wales. The rest of their work applies only to England.
Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
IOSH is Europe's leading body for health and safety professionals. As an independent and not-for-profit organisation, IOSH aims to regulate and steer the profession, maintaining standards and providing impartial, authoritative guidance on health and safety issues.
Food Standards Agency (FSA)
The FSA is an independent Government department set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Accidents (RoSPA)
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is a registered charity established over 90 years ago to campaign for change, influence opinion, contribute to debate, educate and inform - for the good of all.
Trading Standards Institute (TSI)
The TSI is a professional membership association formed in 1881. It represents trading standards professionals in the UK and overseas - in local authorities, the business and consumer sectors and in central government.
Audit Commission
The Audit Commission is an independent watchdog, driving economy, efficiency and effectiveness in local public services to deliver better outcomes for everyone. The commission works across local government, health, housing, community safety, and fire and rescue.
