History of PELG (Petrol Enforcement Liaison Group)
PELG was set up in 1998, and had evolved from the LACOTS Petroleum Working Group. The group was formed to co-ordinate petroleum safety issues and brought together HSE, LACOTS, CACFOA (later CFOA), APEA, ITSA (later TSI) and other interested enforcement bodies. From approx 2000 it also involved members of UKPIA, AUKOI, and PRA and became a group involving industry as well as enforcers.
It was originally set up to devise guidance and advice to Petroleum Licensing Authorities and licensees on the Petroleum Consolidation Act and to produce circulars (PETELS). Later on it became a subcommittee of the ACDS committee on Dangerous Substances consultation mechanism on revisions to legislation and played a key part in the devising and implementation of DSEAR in 2002.
