A special welcome this month to Marcia Davies who succeeds Phil Scott as ‘champion’ of the LA/HSE Partnership. Many of you may have met Marcia at the Midlands Partnership event last year and I know that she is very much looking forward to meeting with many of you over the coming months.
Thank you to those of you who have responded to the Partnership evaluation survey. The consultants, PA Consulting, are carrying out a number of focus groups to gauge the views of local authorities, HSE, businesses and employees on the Partnership and whether it has delivered on its original objectives as set out in the Statement of Intent. We hope to publish the results at the end of the Summer. Talking of the Partnership, you will see that this month’s newsletter includes an advert for a number of partnership liaison officer posts. I encourage you to consider applying and making a real difference through these excellent opportunities.
The revised Section 18 Standard has been issued to HSE and LAs and we are developing the detailed toolkits and guidance to support this. This includes arrangements for: priority planning (review of LAC67/1); reporting (e.g. LAE1 return); incident selection criteria; and monitoring/auditing enforcing authorities. HELA Task and Finish Groups have been set up to consider each of these issues and we will report back on progress to HELA at its meeting on 20 October. We will, of course, keep you informed.
