Local Area Agreements

  • are agreements between central government and local authorities and their partners about the targets for the local area
  • are a three-year vision of a sustainable community set out in up to 35 locally agreed targets
  • aim, through the sustainable community strategy, to promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of the local area
  • apply to all single and upper tier local authorities in England from April 2008
  • include targets selected from the national set of 198 indicators agreed by Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG)
  • help local authorities and partners to focus on the key priorities and challenges that they and their communities face, for example, deprivation, poor health and obesity
