Local Area Agreements
- are agreements between central government and local authorities and their partners about the targets for the local area
- are a three-year vision of a sustainable community set out in up to 35 locally agreed targets
- aim, through the sustainable community strategy, to promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of the local area
- apply to all single and upper tier local authorities in England from April 2008
- include targets selected from the national set of 198 indicators agreed by Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG)
- help local authorities and partners to focus on the key priorities and challenges that they and their communities face, for example, deprivation, poor health and obesity
