The Human Factors Team are in the process of developing a research programme of activities that will deliver effective management of human factors in the control of major accidents.

Some of the projects within the programme will have a clear focus building upon existing knowledge and established principles. However, others will be essentially scoping studies investigating the feasibility of proposed approaches.

The main themes will include:

• Organisational behaviour
• Risk assessment
• Human factors in design
• Training and competence assurance
• Safety-critical communications
• Maintenance error.
