Minimising the risk and effect of major incidents is HID's primary function. It achieves this via a range of strategies and activities which are set out within this delivery plan. Some of these impact indirectly - those for example which are set out against the objectives of managing and targeting resources effectively. The following activities contribute directly to this objective:

(Note: that one activity which has a great impact on reducing or mitigating the risk of major hazards is of course our work with stakeholders. Though this runs through all of our activities it has been set out as a discrete activity in order to clearly present HID's approach to this most vital area of work).

This workstream covers the work undertaken to ensure we have the right people in the right place, they are equipped with the necessary skills, competencies and equipment to carry out their role and their health safety and welfare is properly protected and managers are equipped and supported to lead their staff.
