Links between cleaning activities and slips and trips

HSE published a research report, HSL/2006/80 [83KB] investigating the links between cleaning activities and slips and trips accidents in NHS Acute trusts. The research was undertaken by the Health and Safety Executive Laboratories. The objectives of the research were to identify:

• Current levels of awareness of the impact of cleaning on slips and trips held by health and safety, housekeeping, supervisory and cleaning staff
• Factors that impact upon the number of slips and trip incidents
• How cleaning procedures, techniques and materials are specified and monitored
• Interventions that could help reduce the number of slips and trip incidents in hospitals
