ART Tool

The Assessment of Repetitive Tasks (ART) is a new tool designed to help health and safety inspectors, assess repetitive tasks involving the upper limbs. Their prevention is a priority for HSE.

The pilot by 60 HSE and Local Authority (LA) inspectors of the new ART tool in February this year was successful. Following some refinements ART will be rolled out to selected inspectors to complete the trials. We hope to train more inspectors in 2008 and to encourage the use of ART in routine inspections. ART will be available (free) from the HSE Books website, probably early 2009.

It is anticipated that employers, safety officers, safety representatives and others may also find ART useful to identify high-risk repetitive tasks involving the upper limbs, and help them complete their risk assessments. Watch this space for further information and details of its publication date.
