Programme of work

Targets

The Revitalising Health and Safety Strategy (RHS) was launched jointly by the Government and HSC on June 7 2000. This ten-year strategy seeks significant improvements in workplace health and safety by setting targets to reduce work-related ill health and injuries.

The Government Setting an Example programme will make a significant contribution to the Revitalising Health and Safety targets by improving health and safety management in the public sector.

The overall RHS targets are that by 2010 there will be a:

  • 30% reduction of the number of working days lost per 100 000 workers from work-related injuries and ill health;
  • 10% reduction of the incidence of fatal and major injury accidents; and
  • 20% reduction of the incidence rate of work-related ill health.
