GTOSG's response to HSE's gas supply strategy

GTOSG's contribution to 'Being Part of the Solution'

The Gas Transporters Operational Safety Group (GTOSG) is a high-level forum whose purpose is to consider health and safety issues affecting all UK gas transporters.  The following stakeholders are represented on the GTOSG:

  • the major gas distribution networks (GDNs), ie National Grid Distribution; Scotia Gas Networks; Northern Gas Networks; and Wales & West Utilities;
  • National Grid Transmission (NG UKT), operators of the National Transmission System (NTS)
  • the Association of Independent Gas Transporters;
  • the Network Emergency Coordinator (NEC) (currently an employee of NG UKT); and
  • HSE.

All of the members of GTOSG are committed to achieving the highest standards of health and safety in the transport of gas and fully support both HSE's overall strategy, "The Health and safety of Great Britain \\ Be part of the solution", and the associated industry sector-specific Gas and Pipelines Strategy.

The following table sets out the links between commitments made and activities undertaken by GTOSG members and specific objectives within the Gas and Pipelines strategy.  In doing so it describes how the GTOSG contributes to the delivery of the strategy.

Through this joint approach GTOSG is working to ensure that standards of health and safety across the sector will be at least maintained and, where possible, improved.
