The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is warning landlords to ensure gas installations in their properties are safe and that they are annually checked by a competent registered gas engineer. The warning follows its prosecution of a Doncaster caravan park owner for exposing her tenants to serious risks to their health and safety. - 19.02.08 - HSE warning after council prosecution over CO incident at school
HSE is warning those with a responsibility to maintain and service gas appliances in schools and other public buildings to ensure that they have a robust gas safety management system in place. Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council was fined a total of £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £6,830 following an incident at Crookhill Primary School. - 12.02.08 - Mid Wales gas engineer prosecuted for unauthorised gas work
The gas engineer was sentenced with a community order of 280 hours unpaid work and a supervision order, alongside being ordered to pay costs totalling £6750. HSE inspector Barbara Francis said: "This case provides a salutary warning for anyone doing gas work without the correct training or registration - HSE will take the strongest action possible against anyone who does not comply with the law. The HSE is warning landlords to use only competent CORGI registered gas fitters work on domestic gas appliances. The warning follows HSE's prosecution of a landlord who was fined a total of £6,000 and ordered to pay £4,478 costs. -
15.01.08 - HSE warns safety comes first when working with gas after Stoke on Trent engineer is jailed
The HSE has issued a warning to the public to only allow CORGI registered gas engineers to work on their appliances. The warning comes after a gas fitter pleaded guilty to four charges of breaching HSE Prohibition Notices and two charges of falsely claiming CORGI registration. He was sentenced to six months in prison, on each of four charges. The sentences will run concurrently.
