Reducing MSDs - HSE's new ART tool - Workshops during 2010/11
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the biggest cause of occupational ill health in the UK. HSE's excellent new Assessment of Repetitive Tasks (ART) tool can be used to highlight risk factors, allowing practical steps to be taken to reduce the likelihood of injury.
IOSH Food and Drink Group, assisted by experts from HSL and HSE,have already run four half-day workshops on reducing upper limb disorders (ULDs) and the use of the ART tool. Further workshops may take place in late 2010 and/or early 2011.
Local food industry Health and Safety Groups
In recent years many food manufacturers have jointly set up health and safety groups in their region. These include:
- Food Industry Safety and Health Network (FISHNET) covering Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex
- Food Industry Regional Safety Team (FIRST) covering Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire
- Northwest Food and Drink Group covering west and north Yorkshire
- Somerset and Dorset Food Industry Group
- Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Food Industry Health and Safety Group
- North West London Food Industry Safety Group
In addition there are many local general industry health and safety groups in existence. Two which have a largely food industry membership are:
- Humberside Occupational Health and Safety Group (RoSPA) covering Hull and Yorkshire
- South Humberside Health and Safety Group (RoSPA) covering Grimsby and Lincolnshire
As contact details for these groups change frequently it is not possible to provide contact addresses on this page. However contact details can be obtained from HSE's Food and Drink Manufacture Section.
