To inform inspectors of the publication of a revision of the Step Change in Safety publication, ‘Lifting and mechanical handling guidelines’.
The 'Lifting and mechanical handling guidelines' were first published in 2003 and have become the offshore industry primary standard for the management of lifting operations and the competency requirements for personnel undertaking lifting operations.
These guidelines have now been re-issued and other than the inclusion of an additional section, ‘Monitoring, audit and review’ to reflect one of the key findings of KP2, only minor changes have been made. The minor changes do include an update of the training and competence assessment of personnel undertaking lifting operations and the inclusion of an example lifting plan and associated risk assessment
.The guidelines are published in booklet form and can be downloaded from Step Change in Safety .
Inspectors undertaking inspections of lifting operations should refer to these re-issued guidelines.
