Instructions for matrices
- Gather the relevant management performance evidence, through the accepted protocols of evidence and discussion. Bear in mind the majority of businesses will not have features that directly relate to HSG65/POPMAR or other safety management systems. Therefore accept the terms used by dutyholders may well be significantly different from regulators terminology.
- A feature of the Micro matrix is that terminology/language moves away from the jargon of health and safety in order to offer the dutyholder the opportunity to more quickly relate to what inspectors are trying to discuss/explain/achieve and understand. It should provide a quicker means of building a dialogue. It should also have the effect of putting into context the regulators’ pitch for sensible health and safety.
- Identify the performance characteristics and match to the descriptors for each element (headings in left hand columns). Enter score 1-6 in right hand column, add the column, and then divide by relevant factor, round up/down, this is then the Competence and Attitude of Management Score.
