Cherry Picker

One of the guardrails on the cherry picker is down. If the worker falls from this height they could easily be killed or severely injured.

Top Tips for using cherry pickers (or other mobile elevating work platforms):

  • Before you start using a cherry picker make sure you know what it can do and that you have been trained to use it properly.
  • Plan what you want to do. Make sure that you have the right equipment and that it can be used safely.
  • Check the ground and weather conditions. Soft or sloping ground, manhole/drain covers, heavy rains and high winds can all cause the cherry picker to be unstable.
  • Protect the base of the cherry picker with barriers. When raised make sure the platform will not hit fixed structures or overhead cables.
  • Make sure the cherry picker is inspected and examined by a competent person at least once every six months.
