Health and Safety Executive

Small business owner

We will arrange for small business (fewer than 50 employees) in the selected estates to be visited by an Estates Excellence team member. This person could be, for example:

  • a health and safety awareness officer
  • a fire officer
  • a local authority health and safety advisor.

Our visiting staff come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all meet a minimum requirement of education and training to be a visiting officer.

Their role is to:

  • visit you at your workplace
  • reinforce the business benefits of good health and safety practice
  • help you identify your knowledge gaps and risks using a self-assessment questionnaire called the EE KIT tool
  • provide information and guidance
  • invite you to free training events and drop-in sessions locally
  • help you create a network or community to support your business.

This visit is not an inspection! We are moving from our traditional enforcement-led approach towards helping business communities help themselves manage health and safety.

After the training weeks you’ll be able to access further support and information on this website and the Estates Excellence community website
