During an inspection at a motor dealership offering a full range of garage services, it was observed that employees had no suitable washing facilities in the immediate vicinity of a spray workshop and that the facilities provided at the nearest washroom were inadequate, in that no hot or warm running water was available. Employees needed close and suitable washing facilities, including hot water, due to the occupational health risks posed by the nature of their work. The dealership was made up of 4 partners.
Due to the lack of adequate washing facilities the inspector served an Improvement Notice on each of the 4 partners. The Notice required each partner to ensure that suitable and sufficient washing facilities were provided for their employees. The partnership complied with the Notice, providing hot and cold running water, suitable cleaning materials and drying facilities.
