Programme of work

HSE works to prevent electrical injury in connection with work by directing and taking part in the following activities:

As well as work on the HSE Programmes, Electrical Inspectors are also working on the following topics:

• The colour code change for fixed electrical installation wiring and cabling.
• The revision of BS 7671 ‘Requirements for electrical installations. IEE Wiring Regulations. Sixteenth edition’ and its associated guidance.
• Live line working standards - revisions and updates.
• Review of Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and possible revision of the Memorandum of Guidance.
• Programme to promote good practice in electrical isolation through targetted inspection and information.
• Integration of the DTI Engineering Inspectorate within HSE following the recommendations of the Hampton Review.

An additional programme of work is being undertaken in the control systems topic area.
