Health effects of Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) have been known for a long time. Despite this, an employer for a stonemasons firm in Haltwhistle, Northumberland failed to report that one of his employees was seriously ill and unable to work due to a rare progressive form of silicosis. This has resulted in a successful prosecution for HSE.
