Discussion - Revitalising Health and Safety In Construction

The discussion ended on 31 December 2002.

Summary and next steps

This discussion document was intended to stimulate debate and the development of imaginative proposals to revitalise the industry's approach to the control and management of health and safety risks. It raised many issues, but did not put forward firm proposals. Instead we were seeking your views and any reliable evidence to support those views.

We received about 300 responses and we are now analysing them. We hope to complete that analysis in Spring 2003. We will discuss the conclusions with the Health and Safety Commission and the industry and will publish them, including:

If you responded and provided an email address we will inform you when the report is published. If you did not, but would like to know when it is published anyway, please send an email to dd.construction@hse.gov.uk and include "DD report" as the subject.

The report will also pave the way for a Consultative Document (probably towards the end of the year) setting out the changes we propose to make to the law. The responses are being entered into a database for analysis. Copies will be available (for a nominal sum), on request from HSE Information Centres, but without confidential responses or respondents personal details. The report will provide a further opportunity for people to contribute or comment by discussing our conclusions to help shape our proposals or to correct any misunderstandings.
