CD264Consultation on proposals for the consolidation of petroleum legislation

This consultation seeks views on HSE’s proposals to consolidate and modernise the petroleum legislative framework in GB. The new regulatory structures will, where practicable, simplify the current legislative arrangements and make the requirements easier to understand. The consolidation is part of the sector specific consolidations recommended by Professor Lõfstedt’s independent review of health and safety legislation ‘Reclaiming health and safety for all’ which are to be delivered by the end of 2014.

The new petroleum regulations will consolidate elements of two Acts and six pieces of secondary legislation. The proposed consolidation maintains or improves existing health and safety requirements in relation to regulation of petroleum in GB. HSE is also reviewing related guidance, including relevant Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs), to consider similar consolidation and modernisation to help ease of access and use.
