Proposals for amendments to The Control of Asbestos
at Work Regulations 1987; a new Approved Code of Practice; and a minor amendment
to the Health and Safety (Enforcing Authority) Regulations 1998
Consultation period ended 20 October 2000
Summary
This document contains proposals for amendments to the Control of Asbestos
at Work Regulations 1987 (CAW) and to the Health and Safety (Enforcing
Authority) Regulations 1998 (the EA Regulations). The proposals affecting
the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 1987 have been presented in
two sections, one dealing with management of the risk from asbestos in
premises and one dealing with the amendments required to implement CAD.
This is for convenience because the proposals are likely to be of interest
to different audiences. This document is the first of a series containing
proposals to implement the Chemical Agents Directive (CAD) in Great Britain.
It is proposed that the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 1987
and 1992 and 1998 amendment Regulations together with the proposed amendments
in this document should be consolidated into one set of Regulations. The
Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2001.
