You need to make sure that the people you take on are competent and have the resources to do the job

You are more likely to see your project completed to a high standard, with professionalism, speed, safety and efficiency if you make sure you have a knowledgeable and experienced team working on your project. Ensure that they are competent and appoint them early on so that all work can be properly planned and carried out safely.

To be competent, an organisation or individual must have:

  • sufficient knowledge of the specific tasks to be undertaken and the risks which the work will entail; and
  • sufficient experience and ability to carry out their duties in relation to the project; to recognise their limitations and take appropriate action in order to prevent harm to those carrying out construction work, or those affected by the work

The easiest way to find competent designers and/or contractors is through a reputable trade association.

Further Duties

Will your project last more than 30 days OR involve more than 500 person days of work?

These projects are 'notifiable' under the CDM 2007 regulations and involve additional legal duties...
