We take you through five stages to develop risk assessments for each of the occupational health issues:
| Stage | Title | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrangements | A description of what needs to be considered when managing the risks. One outcome might be an action plan to help you implement the arrangements. |
| 2 | Assess health risks | Identifying who may be affected, when they will be affected and how. |
| 3 | Eliminate risk | This section gives practical tips to help you eliminate risks. |
| 4 | Control risk | Reducing exposure to the harmful process or substance by changing the substances or processes involved. |
| 5 | Manage remaining risk | Providing information, PPE, routine monitoring and supervision. Arranging and using health surveillance. |
This may be a good time to review your company's existing health and safety policy.
If you employ five or more people you must have a written health and safety policy. It contains your company's statement of general policy on health and safety at work and is complemented by arrangements for putting that policy into practice. The policy will usually be signed and dated by the most senior person in the organisation.
Remember that you should review your policy statement to make sure that it accurately reflects the business. This means that it may be necessary to revise the policy in the light of experience, or because of operational or organisational changes. It is useful to review the policy regularly (eg annually).
