Construction Infonet is a free e-Bulletin from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to provide a regular update on health and safety issues for all in the construction industry.
A summary of the HSE Construction Division’s Plan of Work for 2012/13 has been published. It sets out what the construction industry can expect when HSE Inspectors visit sites.
Over the next 12 months, HSE Construction Division will be prioritising our inspection effort on small sites, asbestos removal work and refurbishment projects.

The consultation on proposals to remove the Construction (Head Protection) Regulations and the Notification of Conventional Tower Cranes Regulations closes on 4 July 2012.
A new Safety Bulletin highlights the risk of MSA SavOx units catching fire if the wearer does not follow start up procedures.
MSA SavOx oxygen self rescuer units have been sold for over a decade and are widely used in mines and civil tunnelling.
Action required: Ensure that all users of SavOx units are trained and have been assessed to be competent in the use of the unit and, in particular, understand the importance of following the correct start up procedure.
HSE has confirmed that its cost recovery scheme, Fee for Intervention (FFI), will start on 1 October 2012 subject to Parliamentary approval.
FFI recovers costs from those who break health and safety laws for the time and effort HSE spends helping to put matters right such as, investigating and taking enforcement action.
