Whatever your role, from the day you join us you will be encouraged to develop your existing abilities and learn new skills. For those taking on a regulatory role, you will enjoy the best health and safety training available, including industry specific courses relevant to your specialism.

All new employees are provided with a tailored training and development plan and as a Civil Servant, you have access to a huge range of training and development resources through Civil Service Learning. Those in a professional role are encouraged to develop their CPD through links with professional colleagues in HSE and with their relevant professional institutes.

Specialist engineering/scientific roles

For specialist professions, we engage with the relevant professional institutions and are firmly committed to supporting your ongoing CPD, including achieving or maintaining your Chartered status. Throughout your career with HSE, we encourage you to develop your skills and expertise - you could be working on a cross-industry project with other professionals or choose to develop your knowledge by working in another part of the organisation - the opportunities are varied. Of course, from day one you will be supported by your manager and colleagues to understand your role and the strategic priorities for your area, and you'll develop your specialist and health and safety knowledge through on-the-job experience, structured learning and coaching.
