The maximum of the pay range is £77,499. You will be appointed within the range £67,213 to £71,915. The Aberdeen post will receive an additional Aberdeen Allowance of £13,000 p.a. The role includes travel offshore for which there are additional allowances. Terms of appointment will be negotiated with the successful candidates with starting salary dependent on skills and experience. |

Background
The post holder will be part of a team responsible for assessing the ability of duty holders' to manage the structural integrity of their installations throughout their lifecycle.
Our collective expertise, and the access it provided to more specialist sources of knowledge, is critical in ensuring the industry continues to reduce the likelihood and consequences of structurally related potentially catastrophic events.
You therefore need to be able to contribute from day one, and through your experience enhance the team's capability.
About the role
You will:
- Assess the ability of duty holders to manage structural integrity; and the verifiers to ensure they continue to do so.
- Provide expert advice on structural integrity within HSE, to Industry and to other stakeholders.
- Carry out audits and inspections with respect to structural integrity issues as part of the Directorate's work plan.
- Assess safety cases drawing conclusions as to the adequacy of the case itself and recommendations for future inspection topics.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and complaints as part of a team or alone.
- Provide support and instigate enforcement action, including the preparation of technical reports, and provision of expert evidence in legal proceedings.
- Be assigned topics to manage strategically
- Identify, research, and address emerging generic issues in collaboration with industry
- Network to facilitate the above
- Identify the need for and manage external consultants
Person requirements
- A postgraduate level qualified engineer in a relevant discipline.
- A Chartered Engineer having corporate membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Substantial, varied and complementary postgraduate experience within the offshore oil and gas industry. In particular:
- A good working knowledge of the application of your discipline skill to more than one type of offshore installation, gained within an operating, drilling company, or contractor
- Experience of design, construction, and integrity management.
- Carried out a technical managerial role, interfacing with other disciplines, and producing and delivering compelling cases for change to senior management and or clients.
- Familiarity with application of current offshore standards
- Experience of the assessment of integrity, response to fire and explosion, ship impact, extreme weather, and foundation behaviour.
- Familiarity with risk assessment and risk management tools.
- You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements.
