Process Integrity Engineer

Location Aberdeen, Bootle or Norwich
Salary The maximum of the pay range for this post is currently £77,499. Successful applicants will be offered a point on the salary scale, appropriate to the level of their experience and skills, within the range £67,213 - £71,915. Aberdeen posts will receive an additional Aberdeen allowance of £13,000 per annum. The role includes travel offshore for which there are additional allowances.

Background

The post holder will be a member of the Offshore Division's Process Integrity team. You will be responsible for inspection, assessment, investigation and enforcement of process safety issues on UK offshore installations. Your technical advice will provide a sound basis for employers to set and maintain their own appropriate safety standards.

About the role

  • Provide expert advice on health and safety matters associated with the specialist topic of process engineering within HSE, industry and other stakeholders
  • Carry out inspections with respect to specialist issues as part of the Directorate's work plan
  • Investigate incidents, accidents and complaints as part of a team or individually
  • Provide support for enforcement action. This will include the preparation of technical reports and provision of expert evidence in legal proceedings
  • Initiate research focused on resolving hazards in the offshore work environment
  • Make technical contributions to the development of industry standards and guidance
  • Assess safety cases and inspect Thorough Reviews (of safety cases) drawing conclusions as to their adequacy and acceptability in terms of process safety

Person requirements

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
  • A chartered engineer (or equivalent) with substantial experience in a design/technical support operational environment within the oil and gas, petrochemical industries
  • Relevant post graduate engineering experience in the offshore oil and gas or petrochemical industries
  • Knowledge and understanding of the hazards affecting the safe design and operation of process plant, plus knowledge and understanding of the function and operation of process safety equipment and management systems
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant engineering codes and standards
  • You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements
  • You will hold a full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK unless reasonable adjustments can be made in line with the Equality Act 2010
