Offshore Safety Specialist

Location Aberdeen or Norwich
Salary The maximum of the pay range for this post is currently £77,499. Successful applicants will be offered a point on the salary scale, appropriate to the level of their experience and skills, within the range £67,213 - £71,915. Aberdeen posts will receive an additional Aberdeen allowance of £13,000 per annum. The role includes travel offshore for which there are additional allowances.

Background

The post holder will be part of a team responsible for managing and undertaking the inspection of offshore installations in the UK. HSE has a number of vacancies and for one of these would particularly welcome applications from those with offshore emergency response experience.

About the role

  • You will be OSD's focal point with a number of offshore installations, managing HSE's regulatory relationship with duty holders in the offshore oil and gas industries
  • Inspecting and auditing companies involved in offshore oil and gas operations and related activities, including leading and coordinating a multi disciplined team of other OSD specialist inspectors
  • Leading the investigation of accidents, complaints and dangerous occurrences
  • Taking enforcement action, including statutory notices
  • Preparing prosecution reports and working with Procurator Fiscal
  • Advising employers (often at senior levels) and employees on legal requirements both orally and in writing
  • Managing the assessment process for safety cases submitted in respect of offshore installations, including undertaking the technical assessment of some aspects

Person requirements

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
  • Chartered engineer (or equivalent) with substantial experience in an operational environment within the offshore oil and gas industry.
  • You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements
  • You will hold a full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK unless reasonable adjustments can be made in line with the Equality Act 2010
