Offshore Diving Specialist

Location Aberdeen, Bootle and Norwich
Salary The maximum of the pay range for this post is currently £77,499. Successful applicants will be offered a point on the salary scale, appropriate to the level of their experience and skills, within the range £67,213 - £71,915. Aberdeen posts will receive an additional Aberdeen allowance of £13,000 per annum. The role includes travel offshore for which there are additional allowances.

Background

One post will be based in the Northern inspection team and the other will be based in the Southern inspection team. A significant proportion of the work in both posts involves the offshore diving industry.

About the role

  • Inspection and audit of companies involved in diving operations and related activities
  • Investigation of accidents, complaints and dangerous occurrences
  • Taking enforcement action, including issuing statutory notices
  • Collection of evidence and preparing reports either for legal proceedings or accident investigation
  • Advising clients, duty holders (often at senior levels), and employees and members of the public on legal requirements both orally and in writing

Person requirements

  • Education to degree level. Other qualifications may be considered but the applicant must be able to demonstrate their ability to write complex reports and legal submissions.
  • Experience at management or diving supervisor levels within the offshore diving industry within the UK controlled waters, or be able to demonstrate the ability to work at these levels
  • A minimum of HSE Closed Bell or HSE Part 2 Diving Qualification
  • Experience/ability to plan and supervise diving operations
  • Knowledge of working with a variety of diving systems
  • Knowledge of diving operations and an understanding of the hazards affecting the safe conduct of diving operations
  • Knowledge of diving equipment and an understanding of the safe assembly of diving systems
  • Knowledge of the physics and physiology of diving
  • A working knowledge of other sectors in the diving industry
  • You will hold a full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK unless reasonable adjustments can be made in line with the Equality Act 2010
  • You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements

The post will include offshore travel and the candidate must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical and survival training requirements. The work will require some travel within Great Britain as well as possible travel to offshore installations the latter being by helicopter. Other travel will involve nights away and you should expect to spend some time away from home.
