Background
The post holder will be part of a national team providing technical specialist support for regulating the onshore major hazard installations, which includes oil refineries, oil and gas storage, chemicals production, and some nuclear sites.
About the role
- The primary purpose of the job is to address major accident hazard scenarios. The job role specifically includes:
- Safety report assessments, accident investigations, and Inspections of major hazard establishments with respect to electrical systems.
- Support for enforcement action, including the preparation of technical reports and expert evidence.
- Providing technical support to other specialists on the team
- Developing national technical benchmarks/guidance for compliance where necessary.
- Contribution to HSE's Strategy
The job involves work from home or office coupled with site visits
Person requirements
We are looking for high calibre specialists who, under challenge, can think strategically, be able to identify underlying core issues, engage at the most senior levels within an organisation, be decisive and influence those organisations to bring about improvements. You will have:
- A proven track record and an in-depth knowledge and practical experience of both LV and HV electrical power systems, probably as an authorised person (ideally in the chemical industry, although this is not essential)
- Knowledge and experience of safe systems of work, isolation and risk management.
- A relevant degree
- Membership of a relevant Institution (e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology) and registration with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer or the qualifications and experience to gain membership and registration
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels to drive through change in the organisations that HSE regulates.
- Sound analytical skills to identify underlying gaps and deficiencies related to risk management.
- Initiative, and decisiveness, making sound decisions based on available evidence.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to plan and manage your workload to accommodate the needs of a range of clients within and outside of HSE.
