European Good Practice Awards

What are the awards?

To accompany the European Week campaign, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work ran this year’s European Good Practice Awards. This year the Awards recognised companies or organisations, including schools, colleges and training providers, that have made outstanding and innovative contributions to ensure young people make a safe start in their working lives. The awards demonstrated, by example, the benefits of following good safety and health practices to all European employers and workers and to schools, colleges, young people and their parents.

The awards provided those selected with European recognition for their role in improving working conditions in Europe. In addition:

  • Representatives of the selected companies/organisations were invited to the European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2006 closing event and Award Ceremony for the European Good Practice Awards in Bilbao in Spain.
  • The examples have been published in an Agency booklet which is available on the Agency’s website.

IOSH’s Wiseup2work website won one of eight the Awards given by the Agency. The online resource for young people forms part of the IOSH “Safeguarding the next generation” campaign, which incorporates their Workplace Hazards Awareness Course, and a free online resource called ‘WiseUp2Work’ specifically designed for young people, teachers/educators, parents and employers. It contains practical health and safety information and materials, and includes a free Workplace Hazard Awareness Course for schools and colleges.
