Organised by HSE the Inhaled Particles X (IPX) conference will bring together researchers from a wide range of specialist disciplines to better understand the nature of inhalable particles and their effects once inhaled, for the protection of workers' and public health.

IPX welcomes a full range of disciplines and scientists concerned with protection of health from inhaled particles.

IPX will be concerned with particles in the workplace, in outdoor air, and in the general indoor environment; and will try to find common threads and encourage cross-over of ideas between these three broad fields.

Topics and questions to stimulate discussion

Suggestions for further topics of discussion welcome:

• Cardiovascular disease: What is the role of inhaled particles in the development of cardiovascular disease and/or the triggering of heart attacks?
• Exposure to asbestos and other soil contaminants: What can we gain from looking at these issues together?
• Nano-particles: What can we learn from studies of ‘incidental’ nano-particles, e.g. from diesel traffic?

Recent research

Submissions describing recent research relevant to the conference topics are invited, at this stage in the form of a short one-page proposal or abstract submitted by 31 October 2007.
