Free Seminars - Health and Safety in Care Homes

Did you know over the past two years care home providers have reported over 11,000 work related accidents in the UK? Whilst the majority of these involve employees, 34 of these resulted in deaths to people who use care services.

HSE, LACORS and CSCI are working together to deliver 16 half day seminars at various locations across England and Scotland for owners and managers of nursing and residential care homes.

What will be covered?

The seminars will provide information and guidance about:

• your health and safety duties
• the key causes of injuries and ill health and how to prevent them, including;
  • slips and trips
  • moving and handling
  • other risks affecting people who care services, including those arising from hot water, hot surfaces, windows and bedside rails.

You will hear from:

• HSE about managing the risk of slips and trips and other risks affecting those people using the service
• The Commission for Social Care Inspection (for England) and the Care Commission (for Scotland) will tell you about the importance of delivering good health and safety standards.
• Derby City Council with Handling, Movement and Ergonomics Ltd will share their experience on how the introduction of their risk management systems has transformed the organisations moving and handling culture and how you could do the same.

What support is available?

Those attending the seminar will be provided with lots of practical information to take away, including a copy of the BUPA/HSE Safe use of bedrails CD which is only normally available to use online at hse.gov.uk.
