Back ache bigger than Bäackpain

When Bäackpain hired David Brown as their manager, he thought that he'd have the band back in shape in no time at all. But after some careful research David found out that the problem was a lot bigger than the band ever was.

Back problems are a major cause of occupational ill health in the UK. In fact:

  • 2 million people in Great Britain suffered from work related ill health in 2004/05 - one in five of those involved a bad back
  • Around 4½ million working days were lost through bad backs in 2001/02. On average each sufferer took 17.4 days off in that 12 month period
  • At least 5 million adults consult their GP annually about back pain
  • NHS physiotherapy costs are estimated at £150.6 m
  • One in eight unemployed people say that back pain is the reason they're not working

Don’t worry. Back pain is rarely serious and unnecessary worry delays recovery. Back Pain can often be managed and preventative measures are usually cost-effective. But where back pain cannot be prevented, staying active and staying in work is the best way of managing it.

If you are in severe pain which gets worse over several weeks instead of better, or if you are unwell with back pain, you should see your doctor.

You should see your doctor straight away if you have;

  • difficulty passing or controlling urine
  • numbness around your back passage
  • genitals numbness
  • pins and needles
  • weakness in both legs
  • unsteadiness on your feet
