Accident and ill-health data for the air transport industry

The following data is from reported accidents and ill-health to employees as required by the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR). The data is based upon reports from those industries given the Standard Industry Classification (SIC) codes of:
- 62101 - scheduled passenger air transport;
- 62109 - other scheduled air transport;
- 62201 - non-scheduled passenger air transport;
- 62209 - other non-scheduled air transport;
- 63230 - other supporting air transport activities.
Data from SIC code 63110 (Cargo Handling) is provided separately as the code relates to the unloading and loading of goods or passengers’ luggage irrespective of the mode of transport. Whilst the code will include such activities as handling into aircraft, it also includes activities such as stevedoring.
Accident and ill-health data by SIC
Table 1 and Graph 1 show the reported employee accidents and ill-health over the period 2001 to 2008 for the SIC codes 62101, 62109, 62201, 62209 & 63239. Table 2 and Graph 2 show the same data for SIC code 63310. Both data sets are broken down into:
- fatal;
- major injuries;
- over 3-day injuries.

Accident and ill-health cause by kind code
Graph 3 shows the total reported employee accidents and ill-health over the period 2001 to 2008 for SIC codes 62101, 62109, 62201, 62209 & 63230. The graph is broken down into kind code; the kind code classifies the incident by the main cause of the incident. Graph 4 show the same data for SIC code 63310.
