Training and qualifications in health and safety now eligible for CPD points

A new suite of health and safety qualifications aimed at reducing the unacceptable level of accidents and ill health in the industry are now available with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for National Register of Spray Operator (NRoSO) members. 

Working closely with the HSE, awarding bodies NPTC and Lantra Awards have collaborated to produce this unique package targeting agriculture and horticulture. The qualifications are now available at three levels and so will be of interest to sprayer operators, general farm/horticultural workers, self-employed farmers, supervisors and managers.

Undertaking these VQs has benefits for individuals and for business. They will enable staff at all levels to:

• Understand how health and safety affects individual and business performance
• Be aware of the main causes of accidents and ill health, and how to prevent them from occurring
• Address health and safety issues for agricultural and horticultural businesses
• Know the key elements of the law and where to get information and advice

For those individuals with management responsibilities, completing these VQs will enable them to:

• Know how to undertake risk assessment
• Be aware of appropriate standards of training
• Select appropriate contractors and work equipment
• Understand the principles of good health and safety management

NRoSO members who attend recognised VQ training courses for either the level 2 or level 3 VQs will be eligible for 12 CPD points. Those who successfully pass the assessments will be awarded 4 CPD points at each level.
