Download the self-assessment software from this website onto your computer.
When you first access the package, you will see a welcome screen and
a series of introductory screens.

You will then be asked for personal details about your farm (eg CPH
number and address). You can continue to the next stage without completing your personal details, but they will be required if you wish to order free guidance leaflets from HSE.

You will then see a selection screen that will ask you what type of
farm you have (this will restrict the number and type of questions asked).

You will then see a screen introducing the topic followed by the first
question.

Depending on your response (eg Yes, No, N/A) you will be asked for further
information or you can click the next button to continue on to the next
question. You will also be able to select any relevant guidance you wish
to order.
Please note that the indicator (next to the question number on the
left-hand side of the screen) will be red before you begin to answer the
question. When you answer a question, the indicator changes to green when
complete. Incomplete questions are shown in amber. The indicator for all
questions must be green before the form is 'complete' and before
you can move on to the next stage.
To navigate between questions, either use the NEXT or PREV buttons or
select the question from the tree on the left-hand side of the screen.
You may close the application at any point by using the X in the top
right-hand corner or by selecting Exit from the File menu. At this point
you will be asked whether you would like to order the guidance selected
to that point or wait for the form to be completed before ordering (depending
on your response an order may now be sent to HSE Books).
When you return to the application you will see a short welcome screen
and be returned to the assessment questions. You can then navigate through
the questions as detailed in point 8.
You can print the form at any point by selecting Print from the File
menu.

When you have completed the form (and all questions have a green indicator)
you will be taken to the next section where you can add any additional
risks that you have identified on your farm which have not been covered
by the questions.

You will then be taken to the guidance review section where you can
review the list of guidance you have selected for ordering.

Next you will see the Print menu where you will have the option of printing
off the completed questionnaire and/or action list.
You will then see the Submit screen where you have the choice of submitting your guidance order to HSE Books. The software will attempt to make an internet connection if you choose to submit a guidance order.

Finally you will see an exit screen and the application will close.
The completed assessment will remain on your computer unless you choose
to remove it. You can return to the assessment at any point.
There is an option that will allow you to reset the application and
start again (under the Help menu). However, if it has been a while since
you last accessed the assessment package, we strongly recommend that you
download a new version from the HSE website to ensure you are working
with the latest version.
