4 New HSE Strategy: The Health & Safety of Great Britain: Be Part of the Solution [PDF 495KB]
HSE has recently launched the new draft of its strategy for health and safety to 2010 and beyond. This was published for consultation on 3rd December. Members will be presented with an overview of the new strategy, before exploring some of the themes further. This will include brief presentations from the policy leads on what they think the new strategy will mean for HSE’s approach to:
  • SMEs - Katherine Fuller, HSE, Business Involvement Unit
  • Worker Involvement - Keith Wiley, HSE, Worker Involvement Unit
  • Leadership - Laurence Golob, HSE, Business Involvement Unit
Members’ views on the new strategy, proposed directions and early thoughts on how they and their organisation may contribute will then be requested.

5 Electronic Risk Assessment & Health and Safety Policy Statement Template
Members will be given an overview of the work HSE has undertaken to produce a prototype electronic template, combining the requirements of the H&S policy statement, written record of arrangements and risk assessment into a single document. The aim is to eliminate duplication and save businesses time and expense, whilst building confidence and encouraging compliance. Katherine Fuller would like members’ views and recommendations on the project so far. Feedback from members on its suitability for the intended SME audience is also sought.

6 Work-Related Road Safety [PDF 51KB]
Christine Barringer, Head of HSE’s Transportation Unit will give a presentation explaining HSE’s position regarding work-related road safety. This will include an overview of the topic, together with the extent of HSE’s role with regard to other regulators. Christine will be happy to receive members’ views as to what they think this issue means for SMEs and how HSE can engage with small businesses on this topic.

Tim Harris, from the International Chemicals Unit, will attend the meeting to answer any questions members may have regarding REACH. This is an opportunity for members to clarify any issues that were raised during the previous Forum meeting in October.
