Update on the strategic vision for HSE, and what it means to SMEs and Trade Associations

Judith Hackitt, Chair, HSE Board

Judith Hackitt will speak for approx 15 mins (followed by Q&A) about:

  • her vision for the future direction of the merged HSC/E organisation;
  • How important the HSC Chair and the organisation view good two-way communication with the SME community, Trade Associations and specifically the SBTAF;  
  • How it will remain just as important if not more so for the new organisation to maintain and build on these relationships;
  • Balancing the need for clear guidance with the principle of goal setting regulation.

Current activity round-up

Tony Bandle, Head of HSE’s Business Involvement Unit, provides a round up of current issues:

  • Dame Carol Black’s review – update since previous presentation to SBTAF
  • The latest developments on the segmentation strategy;
  • An update on EASe following the March HSE board meeting;
  • BRE Review of health and safety review for low risk and SME businesses, and Enterprise White Paper
  • Hampton and other developments in Simplification Plan

Shattered Lives – current HSE slips, trips and falls campaign

HSE is currently running a major slips, trips and falls campaign ‘Shattered Lives’.  Forum members views will be updated on the background to the campaign and any initial feedback from those aware of it will be sought.  Forum members will also be asked to think how their organisations could use the campaign material to help spread the message to members in ways that help embed good practice.

HSE Construction Division SME Initiatives – potential parallels for SBTAF

HSE’s Construction Division is engaging with SMEs as part of a number of initiatives. The presentation will be on one of those initiatives: supply chain work, and its SME dimensions, followed by Q&A and discussion of whether SBTAF members see any potential parallels to their industries, and/or any other methods Construction Division might consider
