United Kingdom Interdepartmental Liaison Group on Risk Assessment (UK-ILGRA)
This website is a historical record. ILGRA has ceased to function and it's work has primarily been taken over by HM Treasury's Risk Support Team.
The UK's Interdepartmental Liaison Group on Risk Assessment (ILGRA) was an informal committee of senior policy makers on risk issues.
Its purpose was to help secure coherence and consistency within and between policy and practice in risk assessment as undertaken by Government and help disseminate and advance good practice. ILGRA met regularly to share views on and experience of risk assessment maters. ILGRA had formal Terms of Reference.
The committee comprised UK Departmental policy representatives . ILGRA was chaired by HSE's Chief Scientist. HSE's Risk Policy Unit provided the Secretariat.
ILGRA had three Sub-Groups:
ILGRA reported to UK Ministers.
- 1st Report in 1996 and
- 2nd Report in 1998.
- 3rd Report in 2002 [45kb]
Ministers fully endorsed the reports and the recommendations contained in them. The Implementation Steering Group on risk agreed that the 3rd Report to Ministers should be put on the ILGRA website and that the Risk Support Team should work with HSE to take forward the ILGRA suggestions for future action, reporting to the ISG as necessary.
- Agenda, papers
and minutes
of ILGRA meetings from 2001-2002 are available on this website. - 'The Precautionary Principle:
Policy and Application'
This paper and all the comments received by ILGRA were handed over to the Risk Support Team, who have taken over the responsibility for any follow up work on this consultation. Those who responded were notified of this by ILGRA.
