The Committee:

  1. noted the change of representative for HSE Safety Policy C1;
  2. noted progress on the review of legislative packages, in particular the progress of the respirable dust working group;
  3. noted Mines Rescue Service staffing levels and service
  4. noted the trends in accidents and ill health in the coal mining industry;
  5. reviewed work carried out ratifying results of small scale fire resistance testing of conveyor belting in comparison with large scale testing previously undertaken.
  6. considered the implications to the coal mining industry arising from the closure of the Electrical Equipment Certification Service (EECS);
  7. reviewed work undertaken into assessment of levels of diesel particulates underground
